The Balloholics dropped both games in Arizona to one of the top 10 teams in the American Basketball Association. The first game Sat Feb 28th 99-72 televised on ESPN live .The gym was packed and Arizona went all out with half time entertainment and a great show. Balloholics were not sharp and got a close up view of what it takes to play at this level. Ex D-League player Zach Andrews was not someone the Balloholics could match up with physically. Arizona was more aggressive and polished as a team.
Balloholics had some good phases during the game but were not consistent in their level of play and Arizona made them pay for any miscues.

Game 2 on Sunday March 1 was a different story 94-84 for Scorpions. The Balloholics were quick studies and came out and matched intensity , were more physical and were within 9 points with 4 minutes to go but could not get much closer. The skill level of the Scorpions and intensity were not to be denied.

The team probably played some of their best basketball of the season in a very competitive environment. This is the goal of the Senior team program, giving local players a chance to step up to a higher level of basketball not available to them currently and see what they’re made of. Of the 10 spots on the final roster only 5 were BC products. Balloholic Senior Team is gaining attention nationwide and its up to the native BC players to claim their spots.

The Balloholics next play in Seattle later in March in the Pacific Northwest regional tournament finals to wrap up the season.

Look for the second year and second edition of the Balloholic Senior Team in the fall of 2015. There will be a second edition!! END

The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.americanbasketballassociation.org today announced that it has signed an agreement to partner with LiveSportscaster and WatchIDSN to provide two major platforms that will carry ABA games this season.

LiveSportsCaster is a Louisville-based proprietary streaming platform that provides multi-platform streaming solutions that work with Mac, PC, iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Tablets, and can also archive broadcasts for On Demand viewing and offers a Pay Per View (PPV) Option.

WatchISDN can reach every home with an internet connection of which there are hundreds of millions in the US alone. “We are pleased to be partnering with the ABA and bringing professional basketball to WatchIDSN,” stated Joseph Pecoraro. “The ABA has always been identified with excellence both on and off the court and we are more than confident that the ABA will continue to put a great product on the court night in and night out. WatchIDSN is excited to showcase the ABA and bring quality professional basketball to sports fans across the country and around the world.”

“We are very excited about adding these two great organizations to the ABA family,” stated Joe Newman, ABA co-founder.” “Antjuan Washington, VP of ABA Media & Entertainment, put these two programs together and is working directly with each to schedule top ABA games throughout the season.”

“LiveSportsCaster is very excited about this association with the ABA,” added Timothy Brian, Media Specialist. “The original ABA produced some of the greatest players of the 20th Century, the brand recognition worldwide is phenomenal. And this ABA has over 1000 players made up of former NBA players, NCAA Division 1 & 2 players, McDonald’s All Americans and international players..so the interest in these games should have worldwide appeal and generate a large audience.”

For more information, visit www.livesportscaster.com orwww.watchidsn.com or contact Tjuan at tjuan12@gmail.com or visit www.americanbasketballassociation.org. END

Jose Colorado (Quest U 2015) Joins ABA Roster

2013-14 Highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP148vEeASo

Click link for full Metro League article: http://metroleague.ca/2015/12/16/fight- ... nd-scores/

The first annual Vancouver Metro All-Star event started with a 3-point competition. 16 participants arrived with hopes of taking away the winner take-all prize. 9 of those 16 players were current Metro League participants, not including the director of the league Doug Plumb. The first round would see two head-to-head 30 second shootouts to make it to the final four. Even with the tie-breakers decided, the final four had its own shootout between Bret McDonald and Vito Chan of Metro Men (both tying with 11 made 3s in the first round). McDonald would beat out Chan, but failed to make it to the final round. JJ Bath of Sofa King Good started the first round with 10, but only managed just 6 makes in the semis. In the finals, it would be Gene Wolf of SWAT versus an unaffiliated participant by the name of Jose Colorado. Wolf is a long time local legend, who has made a big-time comeback to prominence despite two old knees that have more age on them than Donald Trump’s hairstyle. Wolf hit 12 3-pointers in both the first round and final four, setting the early pace for the competition. Colorado came in as an unknown, but played for Quest College and is the newest member of the ABA Vancouver Balloholics basketball team. Colorado would top Wolf’s effort with 13 and 15 made 3s in the first round and final four, respectively. The finals would be a nail biter to the end, as both players missed shots at the first part of the round, but both turned it on late. At the buzzer, the score was 13-12 for the winner Jose Colorado. An impressive feat, as Colorado won this competition in loafers, while wearing street clothes!

They play with the iconic red-white-blue ball, at a dizzying offensive pace and you might even see a five-point play happen from time to time.

No, it may not feature Julius Erving’s or George Gervin’s afros soaring through the air, but the American Basketball Association (ABA) is back and the Vancouver Balloholics — now in their second year — are here to stay, says general manager Wayne Best.

“It’s a good product and very offensively oriented,” says Best, a former Simon Fraser University player.

“It’s a stepping stone for players who are here. Many of our players have graduated at 22 to 23 (years of age) and their games haven’t really matured yet or developed enough to start their careers abroad. This team puts them in a position to succeed.”

Following the Balloholics’ inaugural 7-7 season in the flamboyant league last year, the West Coast franchise has reloaded with a new roster, and with it an improved 6-2 overall record and an optimistic outlook the team can ignite excitement in the B.C. basketball community.

Its earlier namesake, the ABA was a flashier version — and rival — to the National Basketball Association in the 1960s and ’70s, with the three-point line, massive scorelines and the slam-dunk contest, before the two leagues merged in 1976.

The league was defunct for 24 years before Joe Newman and former ABA executive D1ck Tinkham spearheaded a comeback in 2000, and it’s clear they brought the fun along with them after all those years.

“One of the real interesting rules they have now is called ‘3D’ in which if you make your opponent turn over the ball before they hit half court, you get an extra point on that possession should you score,” says Best, whose team plays home games at BCIT gym.

“In our first game last year they actually scored a five-point play in the dying seconds and we lost,” he says with a laugh. “It basically puts you in a situation where no lead is safe.”

Demitri Harris (Vancouver) and Clay Crellin (Brackendale) headline the seven B.C. players the Balloholics are fielding. Last year, the team travelled to Arizona and were featured on ESPN 3. This season — with booked flights to San Francisco, Texas and discussions of China — an NBC affiliate has jumped on board to air league games.

“Players are seeing this is a legitimate platform to get noticed more and more,” says Best.

With a staggering 95 teams, lower franchise fees, one of the most ethnically diverse ownership bodies and a host of former NBA, D-league, collegiate and international players headlining the league, the revamped ABA is considered one of most unique professional sports models in North America.

For his part, Best knows his involvement with the league had nothing to do with dollars and figures in the end.

“The whole program (of the Balloholics) is to inspire and to create a platform for others to aspire to so that they can jump-start their careers,” says Best, who has been involved in the Balloholics youth program since 2006. “I wanted to do this from a passion perspective before business. I’m really passionate about developing basketball in Vancouver.

“Toronto has a great base, a great foundation, and I’m hoping we can generate some sort of similar experience to our eastern counterparts.”

The Balloholics’ next game is Jan. 16 against the Lakewood Panthers, from Washington state, at BCIT.
