Former Morehead State men's basketball standout Chad Posthumus has signed a one-year contract to play for Kagoshima Rebnise in the Japanese B.League's B2 Division.

Posthumus returns to Japan where he began his rookie season in 2014-15 with the Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo, where he averaged 10.1 points and 8.1 rebounds over 16 games.

"It is wonderful to be back in Japan playing basketball with the Kagoshima Rebnis," said Posthumus. "I am looking forward to an excellent, win-filled season."

During his rookie season, he also played three games with the Mississauga Power in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC), averaging of 24.3 points and 15.3 rebounds per game, before finishing the season with Athletico Argentino Junin of the Argentinian Liga A. He helped lead the team to a fourth place regular season finish in the South Division, averaging 9.7 points and 4.9 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game.

Last season, he played for the London Lightning and the Island Storm, of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). He played 22 games for the Lightning before being traded to the Island Storm. He averaged 11.0 points and ranked ninth in the NBLC with 6.9 rebounds and 0.8 blocks with 6.9 rebounds per game. The Island Storm lost to eventual champions, the Halifax Hurricanes, in the first round of the playoffs.

The 6-foot-11 Winnipeg, Canada native came to Morehead State as a redshirt junior in 2012-13. Posthumus averaged 7.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in his first season under first-year head coach Sean Woods. As a senior, Poshumus nearly averaged a double-double with 9.6 points and 10.9 boards, good for the fourth best rebounding average in the nation, en route to being named Third Team All-OVC.

Last season, Kagoshima competed in Japan's National Basketball Development League. The team finished the regular season with a 6-30 record. For 2016-17, Kagoshima has joined the newly-formed B.League's B2 Division as the result of a merger of Japan's top two leagues, the BJ League and Japan's National Basketball League.

After taking nearly a year off from professional basketball, Chris Johnson of North Preston is returning to the pro-ranks in Portugal.

Johnson, 28, signed a one-year deal with Illiabum of the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol, Portugal’s top-tier professional league.

“I’ve never been to Portugal before,” he said. “I’m welcoming the experience.”

The six-foot-five-inch forward leaves Saturday for Europe where the team is scheduled to have a training camp before the season begins in mid October. Johnson is one of two new imports to the roster.

“It should be interesting,” he said in a phone interview. “It’s good to get back to Europe.

“It’s a different experience being away from home, but it’s something I’ve encountered throughout my career.”

Since turning professional in 2013, Johnson has played in the United Kingdom and Germany.

During his one-year stint with the En Baskets Schwelm of the German tier-two league, Johnson led the team with 18.4 points per game.

Johnson said his two previous seasons in Europe will help him adjust more quickly to the different style of play across the pond.

“You have to pay more attention to detail,” he said. “You can’t miss out on too many assignments because everyone is making efficient plays.”

Before turning pro, Johnson spent two seasons at St. Bonaventure University, an NCAA Division-I school in New York.

During his final season, Johnson started all 29 games where he scored 12.6 points per game and had 3.4 rebounds per game.

Johnson started last season with the Niagara River Lions of the National Basketball League of Canada but decided after just 11 games to put his basketball career on hold to become more of a mentor to his younger brother.

Caleb Johnson, Chris’s 15-year-old sibling, played on the under-15 Canadian national team this year and won an all-star award at nationals.

“To see him out there on the national stage, it was really uplifting as a brother,” said Johnson.

“He’s following in my footsteps, but trying to take bigger strides.”

The two spent the year training together and working on their craft.

Johnson focused on helping Caleb with more of the off-court aspects of life, like the importance of being on time, keeping up his grades, and telling him what it’s like moving away from home for college basketball.

Johnson said Caleb has already caught the eye of some prep schools in Ontario.

SHAWN HILL HEADING TO SPAIN TO BEGIN PRO CAREER

The Lambton Lions will see their second graduate from last year's squad turning professional as Shawn Hill will leave Monday for Spain to join CB Plasencia. Hill is only the third Lion in program history to score over 1,000 points and was instrumental in leading Lambton to the OCAA Bronze last season. "Shawn was part of a core group of players that really moved the basketball program forward at Lambton in the last few years," says Coach Grant. "For the past four years we were really fortunate to have Shawn suiting up for us. He is big, athletic, and one of the best shooters that we've seen in this league. Hitting 10 for 11 from three in the OCAA Bronze game was a great send off for him and a lasting way to be remembered here in Sarnia. We are all very proud of him and we can't wait to see him develop further in Spain." Good Luck, Shawn! #DEFENDTHEDEN

Former Saint Francis men's basketball player Ben Millaud-Meunier (Montreal, Quebec/Vanier) has signed with Agustinos Leclerc of LEB Plata in the Spanish Basketball Federation.

"I am extremely happy for Ben," Saint Francis head coach Rob Krimmel said. "His goal of becoming a professional basketball player has become a reality and I know he is excited to get his career under way."

The team has qualified for its league playoffs in each of the past four seasons and recently earned promotion into LEB Plata for the 2016-17 season.

Millaud-Meunier finished his Saint Francis career with 989 points while making 212 three pointers, the third most in school history. Twice, he hit eight three pointers in a game last season, falling just one shy of tying the school record. He's seventh in school history in career three-point percentage and third in career free throw percentage. Millaud-Meunier finished his career with a 7.9 points per game average and was named to the NEC All-Rookie Team as a freshman.

"During his time in Loretto, Ben spent countless hours in the gym that enabled him to become one of the best shooters to ever play at Saint Francis," Krimmel said. Ben's enthusiasm and ability to change a game with just a few shots will be great assets for his new team in Spain."
